Three Charge Players Receive League Honors
May 1, 2014 - NBA G League (G League)
Cleveland Charge News Release
Three Canton Charge players received All-NBA Development League honors, the league office announced today. G Jorge Gutierrez, F/C Arinze Onuaku and G/F Gilbert Brown were recognized by the NBA Development League for their outstanding play during the 2013-14 season.
"These accolades for Jorge, Arinze and Gilbert are well-deserved and we are very proud of how they grew as players after all of the hard-work put in throughout the season," said Charge Head Coach Steve Hetzel. "Our entire roster was full of guys who could have gotten one of these postseason awards and it's nice to have these three representing their Charge teammates."
Gutierrez (6-3, 195, California) was named Second Team All-NBA Development League and First Team All-Defense after playing in 35 games (all starts) and averaging 13.9 points on .461 shooting with 5.7 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.2 steals in 32.8 minutes per game. A returning player after being drafted by Canton in 2012, Jorge received a GATORADE Call-Up by Brooklyn on March 6. He signed two separate 10-day contracts before the Nets inked him to a multi-year deal on March 28.
Onuaku (6-9, 285, Syracuse) received Third Team All-NBA Development League honors after playing in 32 games (11 starts) and averaging 14.8 points on .628 shooting (second-best in the D-League) with 10.1 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 24.8 minutes per game with sixteen double doubles. After beginning the season with the New Orleans Pelicans, Onuaku returned to the Charge for much of the season before receiving a GATORADE Call-Up by the Cleveland Cavaliers on February 22.
Brown (6-6, 215, Pittsburgh) was named Third Team All-Defense after playing in 40 games (33 starts) and averaging 12.3 points on .496 shooting with 3.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals in 29.6 minutes per game. He was originally chosen by Canton in the first round (14th overall) of the 2013 NBA D-League Draft.
In total, 13 of the 15 players selected to this year's All-NBA D-League First, Second, and Third Teams have NBA experience, with 11 earning GATORADE Call-Ups during the 2013-14 season and seven currently on NBA rosters. Of those seven, four are on NBA teams currently competing in the Playoffs.
