MONTREAL - CF Montréal Academy players Alessandro Biello, Gaël De Montigny and Étienne Godin have been called up by the Canadian U17 national team for the U17 World Cup in Indonesia, from November 10 to December 2. 15-year-old defender Sergei Kozlovskiy was named to the reserve list.
Canada will play in Group B where it will face Spain, Uzbekistan, and Mali in that order. The two best teams from each group and the four best third-placed teams will qualify for the round of 16.
Biello, De Montigny and Godin currently play with CF Montréal's reserve squad in the semi-professional provincial league Ligue1 Québec. The three players took part in the U17 Concacaf Championship last February in Guatemala where they totaled five, six and three caps respectively.
"Playing a World Cup is not a common thing in a soccer career so we are proud that three of our boys can live this incredible experience that will help their development. We are also happy to have helped them get there," said CF Montréal Academy director Marinos Papageorgopoulos.
