
Three Bombs Propel Nuts to Victory

VISALIA, CA. - Three home runs led the Modesto Nuts to a 5-4 victory against the Visalia Rawhide on Friday night at Recreation Park.
Johnny Adams launched the first home run of the game in the second inning to put the Nuts (27-34) up by two. Joe Rizzo doubled the Nuts' lead with a two-run shot to right in the fifth. All of that was against Rawhide (38-18) starter Justin Vernia who last 5.2 innings.
Ljay Newsome started for the Nuts working six innings allowing two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk. The Nuts righty allowed just one bunt base hit in the first three innings.
The Rawhide tied the game against Kyle Wilcox (W, 2-1) in the seventh on a wild pitch and a RBI groundout. After giving up those two runs, Connor Kopach untied the game in the top of the eighth when he launched a solo home run to left.
Wilcox retired the eighth in order before Joey Gerber (S, 8/9) closed out the ninth working around two singles and an error.
