Storm Pitching Stifles Lancaster in 5-0 Victory at the Diamond
June 8, 2019 - California League (CalL1)
Lake Elsinore Storm News Release
LAKE ELSINORE, Calif - The Storm had San Diego Padres' reliever Jose Castillo making a rehab start on Friday night, but it was the scheduled starter, RHP Caleb Boushley, who shined out of the bullpen in leading the Storm to their league-best sixth shutout of the season in a 5-0 win against the Lancaster Jethawks. Boushley replaced Castillo in the second inning and delivered six innings of two-hit, scoreless relief to improve his record to 3-1. The home team capitalized on three unearned runs in the third, plated two more in the fourth inning and then let the pitchers do their work.
After Boushley's gem out of the pen, former Padres' shortstop turned aspiring reliever, RHP Javy Guerra, worked a scoreless eighth inning followed by RHP Jordan Guerrero recording the final three outs as the Storm began a five-game home stand with a shutout against the top hitting team in the league.
Offensively for the Storm, 2B Esteury Ruiz went 2-3 with two stolen bases, CF Jeisson Rosario went 2-4 as did C Luis Campusano, who also belted his team-best 14th double to help pace a 10-hit attack.
The Storm are five games back of the Dodgers' affiliate, Rancho Cucamonga, with nine games to play, which includes four more at home against Lancaster followed by a five-game series in Rancho to close out the first half.
