Modesto Nuts News Release

VISALIA, CA. - Ian McKinney tossed five shutout innings as the Modesto Nuts earned their third straight win with a 4-1 triumph over the Visalia Rawhide on Saturday night at Recreation Park.

McKinney (W, 4-3) worked around six hits and three walks as the Rawhide (38-19) put multiple runners on in all but one inning. McKinney's shutout was saved by Jake Scheiner in the fifth when he threw out Mark Karaviotis at the plate to end the inning, preserving the Nuts' (28-34) one-run lead.

Scheiner had given the Nuts that lead when he launched a home run in the second against Rawhide starter Jeff Bain (L, 4-4). Cal Raleigh added a RBI groundout in the sixth against the righty. That was all Bain allowed as he worked seven innings while striking out 13 with just two walks.

Raleigh added an insurance run with a sac fly in the eighth to score Joe Rizzo who reached base four times. Johnny Adams doubled home a run in the ninth.

Collin Kober worked around a two-out infield single in the ninth to secure the Nuts' victory and push their record to 3-2 on this eight-game road trip.

The Nuts continue their five-game series against the Rawhide on Sunday night. First pitch is at 6:00 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 5:50 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC.
