Portland Thorns FC News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - After earning a 1-1 draw on the road against the North Carolina Courage in their last match, Portland Thorns FC return home to play host to Utah Royals FC, in a match presented by Brew Dr. Kombucha, on Friday, June 21, at Providence Park. Beginning at 8 p.m. (Pacific), the game will be broadcast on Yahoo! Sports.
Recent form
Portland (4-1-3, 15pts) earned a point on the road with a draw against the Courage on June 15. Thorns FC have earned at least one point in seven of their first eight matches in 2019. Midge Purce tallied Portland's lone goal in the match. The goal was Thorns FC's 17th goal of the campaign, which is tied for the most in the NWSL this season. For Purce, it marked her third straight game with a goal. Her four goals rank tied for third in the NWSL.
Home-field advantage
Thorns FC earned a 3-0 win against the Chicago Red Stars in their first home match of the 2019 season on June 2. With the win on June 2, Portland improved to 25-5-5 at home in NWSL regular-season play since 2016. Dating back to the conclusion 2018 season, Thorns FC are unbeaten in their last seven regular-season home matches (5-0-2) at Providence Park, scoring two or more goals in six of those matches.
Against Utah
Friday's match marks the fourth meeting all-time between Portland and Utah. Thorns FC lead the all-time series with a record of 2-0-1, with a mark of 2-0-0 against Royals FC at Providence Park.
