SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Portland Thorns FC earned a road point with a 2-2 draw against San Diego Wave FC at Torero Stadium on Wednesday night. Sophia Smith struck first for Portland, followed up by a goal from Christine Sinclair in the first minute of the second half. Scoring her 58th career goal in her 150th NWSL appearance, Sinclair is now in sole possession of second-most goals scored in NWSL history.
Sinclair Makes More History
In her 150th NWSL appearance, Sinclair scored her 58th career goal, moving her into sole possession of second-most goals scored in league history. Notably, she is just the fourth player in league history to record 150 matches played with one club. She has scored three goals in Portland's last two games and four overall this season, sharing the team lead with Sophia Smith.
Smith's Scoring Spree
Smith tallied her fourth goal of the season tonight, sharing the team lead with Sinclair. The goal marked Smith's first career penalty-kick attempt and conversion. The 21-year-old striker has recorded a goal or an assist in three straight matches (2g, 1a), and has produced a goal contribution in five of Portland's last seven matches (4g, 1a). Notably, Smith has scored in all three matches against San Diego this year, including both matches in 2022 Challenge Cup play.

POR - Christine Sinclair (Sam Coffey), 46th minute: Receiving the ball in the center of the field, Sam Coffey served a curling ball toward the penalty spot. Christine Sinclair brought it down out of the air and sent a half volley past San Diego goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan.
SD - Taylor Kornieck (Amirah Ali), 81st minute: San Diego earned a corner kick and sent the ball into the box. Amirah Ali helped settle the ball in traffic, allowing Taylor Kornieck to fire a shot into the upper right-hand corner.
SD - Taylor Kornieck (Christen Westphal), 88th minute: From the edge of the 18-yard box, Christen Westphal whipped a cross into the box, finding the head of Taylor Kornieck, who drove it into the back of the net.
