Alex Morgan, Naomi Girma, Taylor Kornieck Given Top Honors by NWSL for May Performances

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego Wave Fútbol Club announced today that 3 players were voted Award Winners by the NWSL Media Association. Wave FC's leading goal scorer and league veteran, Alex Morgan, was awarded the Player of the Month. Morgan Alex Morgan currently leads all of NWSL with six goals. She scored an NWSL career-high four goals in the 4-0 win over Gotham FC on 5/7/ Morgan, who now has 44 career NWSL goals, is currently ranked sixth all-time on the regular season scoring list.

Wave FC Defender Naomi Girma was voted Rookie of the Month presented by Ally. Girma leads the team in clearances, passes attempted and passes in own half. She has also started in all 7 of Wave FC's regular season games.

Amongst the Best XI of the month presented by Mastercard, Wave FC had 27% of the roster slots with Naomi Girma, Alex Morgan and Taylor Kornieck all recognized. Coming out of of Saturday's match against KC Current, Wave FC remains at the top of the table for the NWSL in regular season play wiht a record of (4-0-2)

Wave FC's next two home matches will take place this week at Torero Stadium at University of San Diego. On June 8th at 7pm, Wave FC will take on Portland Thorn. It's Pride Night presented by Proven Recruiting. Wave FC will be donating $1 from every ticket to benefit SD Pride and their commitment to fostering pride, equality, and respect for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities locally, nationally, and globally. Wave FC's 2nd and last June home match is on Sunday, June 12th against Seattle OL Reign. The first 2,000 Fans entering the gates will receive a free Nike poster featuring either Naomi Girma or Alex Morgan. Continuing the tradition to raise up soccer in San Diego, Wave FC will be recognizing the San Diego Sockers at half-time in recognition of their 16th Championship secured last month.
