Thompson, Toews Lead Thunder Over Rush

RAPID CITY, SD- The Wichita Thunder defeated the Rapid City Rush 4-2 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Friday night. Brad Thompson scored a pair of goals, while Krister Toews earned his eighth road win of the season in the Thunder's victory.

For the second straight game, the Thunder fell behind 1-0 in the first period after Chris Lipsett scored high on Toews at 12:11. Late in the first Ben Boudreau cleaned up a rebound on an open net on a shot from Chris Shudo to tie the game at the 18:00 mark.

Wichita took its first lead of the night at 1:41 in the second period when Brad Thompson nailed a slot feed from Boudreau, making it 2-1 Thunder. Mike Zbriger scored at 5:18 on a high shot giving the Thunder a two-goal advantage. The Rush narrowed the gap on a two-on-one at 5:35 in the second on a goal from Jon Pelle. Thompson netted his second goal of the night at 11:59 in the third to give the Thunder a 4-2 lead.

Joel Hanson finished the game with three assists. Krister Toews earned the win, saving 31 of 33. The Thunder went 1 for 4 on the power play and 4 for 4 on the penalty kill.
