
Scorpions Fall In Odessa

[ODESSA, Texas]-Odessa slowed down the Scorpions playoff push with a 6-3 victory on Friday night. The loss dropped the Scorps four points behind the final Southern Conference playoff spot.
It was a fast paced first period at the Ector County Coliseum with very few whistles. Kory Karlander parked in front of the Scorps net and tipped in a shot giving Odessa the 1-0 lead late in the first period.
Odessa came out on fire in the opening minute of the second period. Jeff Pierce and Kenny Bernard both scored in the giving the Jackalopes a three-goal lead.
The Scorpions got on the board as Neil Trimm finished a tic-tac-toe power play goal. It came on the first official shot of the period for the Scorpions at the 10:34 mark.
Chris Robertson brought the Scorps to within one as he stuffed home a loose rebound at the 14:07 mark of the middle frame. The Jackalopes increased their lead as Karlander scored his second goal of the contest two minutes later.
Robertson got the Scorps to within one with a power play goal at the 11:26 mark. New Mexico was then assessed two penalties at the same time giving Odessa a long two-man advantage.
Odessa's Karlander finished his hat trick with the power play goal six minutes remaining in the contest. On the very next shift, Jean Bourbeau took a slap shot that lit the lamp sealing the Odessa victory.
For the first time in over fours years, New Mexico will travel to face Tulsa on Saturday night. The game can be seen on the CHL Network starting at 5:50 p.m. for the pregame show.
The Scorpions return home on Tuesday for a date with Colorado. It is a "Two for Tuesday" with ticket special at the box office. Once inside the Santa Ana Star Center enjoy $1 hot dogs all night long.
On Friday March 6th the Scorpions will host the annual Lobo Club night. Special UNM themed jerseys will be worn and auctioned off following the game to benefit the Lobo Club.
