(Oklahoma City, OK) -- Matt Summers scored a power play goal at 3:38 of overtime to give the Mississippi RiverKings a 5-4 victory over divisional rival Oklahoma City in CHL action on Friday night in Oklahoma. The victory gave the RiverKings their seventh straight win heading into a key Northern Conference showdown against the Colorado Eagles on Saturday night at the DeSoto Civic Center.

Mississippi led 2-1 at the first intermission, with Derek Landmesser opening the scoring with an unassisted power play goal at 55 seconds for a 1-0 lead.

Chad Hinz answered for Oklahoma City with a goal at 2:03 of the first for a 1-1 tie, but Joe Markusen brought the lead back to the RiverKings with a blast off a faceoff for a 2-1 lead at 13:57 and that became the first intermission score.

Mississippi roared out to a 4-1 lead in the second period on goals from Landmesser (his second of the night) and Jeff Alcombrack at 11:52, but the Blazers would use special teams play to score a shorthanded goal, power play goal, and full strength goal in the space of 1:25 of the frame to tie the game going into the final period.

D.J. Jelitto scored the shorthanded goal, Jeff MacDermid tallied a power play goal, and Ted Vandermeer scored the game-tying goal at 17:48 for a 4-4 game after two periods of play.

There was no scoring in the final period, setting up the overtime heroics for Summers, who scored his 14th goal of the season, and fifth power play of the year, assisted by Martin Gascon and Landmesser.

Mississippi is within four points of first place Colorado in the Northern Conference race. The RiverKings meet former coach Kevin McClelland and the Eagles tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. Ticket information is available by calling the RiverKings at 662-342-1755 today!
