High Point-Thomasville HiToms News Release

THOMASVILLE, N.C. - Thomasville scratched across runs in the seventh and eighth innings to get back on their winning ways as they picked up a 5-3 decision over Martinsville on Thursday night at Finch Field.

Thomasville (5-1) broke a three all tie in the seventh inning as Tanner Mathis was hit by a pitch from Steven Ball (L, 2-1) and moved around the bases on three pass balls to score what would be the game-winning run as the HiToms took a 4-3 lead.

That lead grew to the eventual final margin in the eighth inning as Mathis collected a two out single over the head of Mustang second basemen, AJ Nunziato to score Patrick Koontz who led-off the inning with a double as the Tommies took a 5-3 cushion to the ninth inning.

Martinsville (2-2) couldn't starch against Travis Tingle (S, 7) in the final inning as the right hander struck out the side to give the HiToms the two-run victory.

Cole Sturgeon (W, 1-0) kept the game close in the middle innings allowing just one run which tied the game before the Thomasville rally over the last two frames.

Following the 5-3 win, Thomasville will return to action on Friday night at 7:05 when they travel to Peninsula. The Tommies are back at Finch Field on Sunday afternoon at 5:00 when they host the Asheboro Copperheads.
