Wilmington Sharks News Release

The Wilmington Sharks saw another lead fade away on Thursday night, but they were able to respond, answering with two runs in the bottom of the seventh that proved to be difference in their 6-4 win over the visiting Morehead City Marlins.

The Sharks (2-2) had a 4-1 advantage after five innings, but saw their lead evaporate after Morehead City (3-3) plated a run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh to tie the game.

Wilmington answered right back in the bottom of the seventh, opening the inning with back-to-back singles by Jake Mayers and Daniel Aldrich. After a sacrifice bunt moved both runners up, Mayers scored on an RBI single by Kenny Bryant.

With Bryant on first and Aldrich down at third, the Bryant took off from first base. After the throw beat him to the bag, Bryant headed back toward first and was caught in a rundown long enough for Aldrich to score from third before Bryant was tagged out to end the inning. Aldrich led the way offensively for the Sharks with a 3-for-4 night at the plate, while Bryant and Justyn Carter each tallied two hits.

In his first game as a Shark, Vickach Ramjit had himself a two-hit, two-RBI night that included a standup triple and standup double. Jake Mayers and Jacob Leonardo each added an RBI to their stats as well.

Starter Zach Taylor went six innings and struck out five batters while allowing just two runs but did not factor in the decision.

Chris Mazza (3-2), the fourth pitcher of the night for the Sharks, picked up the win after a perfect 1-1/3 innings of work. Ross Whitely earned his fourth save of the season after recording all three outs in the ninth via the strikeout.
