Texas AirHogs News Release
WICHITA, Kansas - Dillon Thomas went deep for the ninth time this season, but the Texas AirHogs dropped the opener in Wichita 6-2 Thursday.
Sun Jianzeng (0-4) got the start for Texas and allowed a two-run home run to American Association leader Tony Thomas in the first. He would settle down to retire eight straight from the end of the first through the beginning of the fourth but was tagged for two runs in the fourth and fifth before exiting the game.
Trailing 2-0 in the fourth, Thomas cut the Wichita lead to one with a solo blast to the batter's eye screen in straightaway center off Wichita starter Casey Harman. The homer was the second in the last three games for Thomas.
Harman (6-2) limited Texas to just one additional hit outside of the Thomas home run to pick up the win. Texas left Stewart Ijames on third after a walk in the sixth. Ijames would pick up an RBI single vs. Wichita relief man Felix Carvallo to account for the only other AirHogs run of the game in the eighth.
Liu Yu, Zheng Chaoqun and Lu Yusong each pitched in relief for Texas. Hunter Clanin, who totaled three RBIs for the Wingnuts, went deep for a two-run homer off Liu in the sixth before Zheng and Lu posted consecutive scoreless innings.
Wichita outhit Texas 11-5. The win was the seventh straight this year for the Wingnuts vs. the AirHogs, who fell to 2-2 on their seven-game road trip.
Texas (14-36) continues the series in Wichita (31-20) tomorrow at 7:05. RHP Miguel Rosario (1-6, 4.93 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs vs. RHP Jordan Cooper (4-4, 6.19 ERA) for the Wingnuts. A live broadcast of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
