Thirteen Stars Alumni to Play in NCAA Tournament

Lincoln, Neb. - Thirteen Stars alumni will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Championship Tournament beginning on March 25.

The former Stars comprise a fraction of the 242 USHL alumni set to compete for a spot in the Frozen Four.

The tournament will feature 16 teams divided between four regional brackets: Midwest, Northeast, East and West. Winners from each bracket will advance to the Frozen Four in Tampa, Florida.

North Dakota, Michigan, Notre Dame and Northeastern were assigned to the Midwest bracket in Cincinnati, Ohio. The bracket will feature eight former Stars: Luke Johnson (North Dakota), Paul LaDue (North Dakota), Chris Wilkie (North Dakota), John Simonson (North Dakota), Zach Aston-Reese (Northeastern), Kevin Roy (Northeastern), Colton Saucerman (Northeastern), and Steve Racine (Michigan).

Former Star Nick Deery (Minnesota-Duluth) is the team's lone representative in the Northeast Regional bracket with Minnesota-Duluth, Harvard, Boston College and Providence. The teams will play in Worcester, Mass.

St. Cloud State, Denver, Boston University and Ferris State will play in the West Regional bracket with former Stars Brad Hawkinson (Denver) and Charles Williams (Ferris State) headed to St. Paul, Minn.

The East Regional bracket will be played in Albany, N.Y. with Quinnipiac, University of Massachusetts- Lowell, Yale and RIT. Luke Shiplo (Quinnipiac) and Tommy Schutt (Quinnipiac) will represent the Stars.
