Brantford Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO. To finish off a 5-game road trip the Bulldogs travelled to Peterborough on Thursday night to take on the Petes in the first of 8 meetings this season seeing the Petes take a 4-3 decision.
The first period would see a tough start for the Bulldogs as J.R. Avon would carry the puck out of his zone shorthanded and fire a shot past Marco Costantini at 11:43 to open the scoring. Peterborough would bubble the lead at 14:37; as Emmett Sproule would find Tucker Robertson on the power-play for a net front tip to give the Petes a 2-0 advantage. Before the period was out however the Bulldogs would strike back, earning a penalty shot after being taken down on a shorthanded breakaway Jonathan Melee would earn his second penalty shot of the season. Striding down the middle of the ice at Michael Simpson, Melee would turn to his backhand and slide it past the Petes goaltender at 17:16 to give the Bulldogs some momentum heading to the locker room.
The Bulldogs would knot the game at 2-2 in the second frame at 11:11 as George Diaco would recognize a fallen Pete at the Bulldogs blue line, feeding a beautiful backhand saucer pass to Jan Mysak racing ahead. With the puck on his forehand, Mysak would fire between Simpson's legs beating the Peterborough goaltender for his 4th of the season. The tie wouldn't last however as at 16:39, Tucker Robertson would hit Nick Lardis from behind the net with a pass in the slot. Costantini reacted to the top of his paint but a knuckleball shot from Lardis would get under his arm giving the Petes a 3-2 heading to the locker room after 40 minutes.
A wild third period would see the Bulldogs throw 18 shots to the Peterborough net but it was the Petes who struck first, as Joe Carroll would find himself open on the rush in front of the Bulldogs goal, giving the Petes a 4-2 lead at 13:24. The Bulldogs wouldn't give up, getting one back at 18:19 as Jan Mysak would tee up Gavin White's point shot, deflected home in front by Logan Morrison for his 3rd of the season but it as close as the Bulldogs would get with Simpson making 28 saves for the 4-3 Petes win.
The Hamilton Bulldogs return home for the last two legs of their weekend 3-in-3 squaring off with the Niagara IceDogs on Friday, October 29th at 7:00pm before hosting the Mississauga Steelheads on Saturday, October 30th at 4:00pm.
