Spitfires Double up Guelph 6-3

The Spitfires were on fire Thursday versus the Guelph Storm at the WFCU Centre.

The Spits jumped out to an early lead with Miedema's 2nd of the season just a minute and a half into the game. Kyle McDonald and Sobolev drawing assists on the goal. Less than three minutes later Johsnton got on the board on a bad angle shot making it 2-0 in the first five minutes of the game. Abraham and D'Amico recorded assists on the player and two goals on four shots was enough to chase netminder Oster out of the game. Five minutes after going up the Storm scored on the powerplay as the Anaheim Ducks pick Pastujov scored. Late in the period the Spitfires poured the pressure back on as McDonald was sprung on a breakaway from a sweet two-line pass from Abraham and McDonald cashed in on his 2nd of the season. A minute and a half later Captain Cuylle scored to give the Spitfires a commanding 4-1 one. Despite the score, Guelph lead shots 18-8 through the first twenty minutes of play.

During the 2nd period, the Spitfires had two chances on the powerplay but failed to cash in on either of them. Just over five minutes into the period Abraham potted home his 2nd of the season after a juicy rebound was left from a Bronson Ride shot from the point. D'Amico had the secondary assist. Late in the 2nd Guelph had their 2nd powerplay of the night and they scored to make it 5-2. The Storm led in shots 26-19 after 40 minutes of play.

In the third period, just under 10 minutes in, Guelph scored to make it a close 5-3 game. Exactly 3 minutes later Nathan Ribau scored his first as a Spitfire on a shot from the point!

The Spitfires take the first matchup 6-3 versus the Storm. The Spitfires next home game is Saturday October 30th puck drop scheduled for 7:05pm vs the Kitchener Rangers!
