March 22, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
PROVIDENCE, R. I. - The Providence Bruins scored twice in the middle period, but the St. John's IceCaps erupted for a three-goal third en route to a 3-2 victory Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin Donuts Center. It was St. John's' first win of the season series, as Providence took each of the first five games.
The IceCaps had 13 shots in the opening period, but had only a pair over the course of two power plays. The P-Bruins had the best scoring chance of the period on a turnover at the blune line. Rob Flick launched a backhand toward the left post, but Connor Hellebuyck made the save with 3:08 remaining in the stanza.
For the fifth game in a row, the Bruins scored first. Cory Kane broke the scoreless tie in the second with a wrap-around attempt that he zipped underneath Hellebuyck's left skate at 5:00. Colin Stuart added some insurance with a tip in the slot after Seth Griffith forced a turnover in the zone. Providence outshot the visitors by a 16-7 margin in the period.
St. John's finally got on the board in the third at 5:20, when Patrice Cormier sent one five-hole from the slot. Brenden Kichton scored the game-tying wrister from the slot only 2:44 later. Defenseman Julien Brouilliette notched the go-ahead strike with a top-shelf shot past Malcolm Subban at 11:42, and the Bruins were unable to score with almost a minute of 6-on-5 time at the end of the period.
The Bruins will play next on Friday, when the team begins a four-game road stretch in Hartford against the Wolfpack at 7:00pm.
