Third 2007 Draft Pick Joins Wizards

Fort Wayne, IN - A third member of the 2007 draft class of the San Diego Padres will join the Fort Wayne Wizards roster today, team officials announced.

Catcher Luis Martinez, drafted in the 12th round of this year's draft from Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee, has been promoted from the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League.

Brandon Gottier, who played in two games with the Wizards after spending time in Triple-A Portland and Lake Elsinore of the California League, will return to the Storm, the Padres' Advanced-A team.

Martinez was tied for the team lead in games played with 68 and hits with 85 this season for the Bulldogs. He was second on the team in doubles at 16, home runs with 13 and runs batted in at 63.

With the Emeralds this year, Martinez appeared in 21 games, hitting .278 with a team-best seven doubles, one home run and 11 RBI.
