Windsor Spitfires News Release
Robbie Czarnik's second goal of the game midway through the second period held up as the winner, as the Plymouth Whalers edged the Windsor Spitfires 2-1 on Friday night.
Tom Kuhnhackl had Windsor's lone goal - his team-leading 11th of the year. But it wasn't enough, as Scott Wedgewood was spectacular, making 36 saves.
Jack Campbell was equally good, stopping 30 Plymouth shots.
Trailing 2-1 after 40 minutes, the Spitfires came out hard in the third period, firing four shots on goal in the first 35 seconds.
But Wedgewood was equal to the task and continued to slam the door, stopping both Kuhnhackl and Alexander Khokhlachev on a 2-on-1 with less than five minutes to play.
The Spitfires got a late power play with just a little more than two minutes left, but just couldn't find the equalizer.
Wedgewood made big saves off Khokhlachev and Ryan Ellis in the final minute, and the game ended with a goalmouth scramble.
