Erie Otters News Release

A defensive battle between the Erie Otters (8-13-1-0) and the London Knights came down to the final seconds as Erie withstood a last-minute stand to take a 2-1 victory over London Saturday night at Tullio Arena.

Ramis Sadikov and the Otters defense held together in the final minutes as the Knights had the extra attacker, with the best chance for the Knights coming with just over a minute to play, as he robbed his fellow countryman Vladislav Namestnikov with a glove save from point-blank range to seal the win for Erie.

The Otters would need just a pair of goal for the victory, starting 7:16 into the game when Greg McKegg scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season. Anthony Luciani's shot from the slot was blocked, put the puck found the stick of McKegg at the left circle and the captain fired it under the left pad of Michael Houser for the goal.

David Broll added the eventual game-winner at 13:29 of the second, when he shoveled a backhander over the left pad of Houser after a scramble in front of the net. Luciani and McKegg picked up the assists as they recorded two-point nights in the victory.

Michael MacDonald cut the deficit to one just under a minute later at 14:26 as he poked the puck between the legs of Sadikov. It would be the only blemish for the Russian netminder, who stopped the other 26 London shots to record his fourth win in his last six starts.

The Otters begin a three-game swing into Eastern Ontario to take on the Peterborough Petes Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. Fans can listen to the game on Fox Sports Radio AM 1330 The Fan or online at ottershockey.com (courtesy of the James H. Cross Company).
