The Super Rookies Propel Cougars to Victory on Teddy & Toque Toss Night
December 10, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince George Cougars News Release
PRINCE GEORGE- In another nail-biter on Teddy and Toque Toss Night, the Prince George Cougars clinched a 1-0 victory over the Victoria Royals at the CN Centre on Saturday.
Demonstrating an outstanding team effort, the Cougars effectively limited the Royals to a mere 16 shots on goal. Terik Parascak and Josh Ravensbergen played pivotal roles in securing the victory, with Parascak netting the coveted Teddy & Toque Toss goal and Ravensbergen achieving his sixth shutout of the season.
The first two periods were characterized by a defensive standoff, with no scoring on either side. Despite the lack of goals, the Cougars showcased their offensive prowess, outshooting the Royals. Royals' rookie goaltender Jayden Krauss displayed stellar performance, denying 20 Cougar shots through two periods.
The turning point came in the third period at 6:21 when Terik Parascak stole the puck at center ice, executed a clear-cut breakaway, and finally beat Krauss to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. The goal triggered a cascade of stuffed animals and warm clothing onto the ice as fans celebrated Teddy and Toque Toss Night.
Facing increased pressure from Victoria in the final moments, Ravensbergen stood tall in the net, slamming the door shut to secure the 1-0 victory. Ravensbergen's sixth shutout of the season now ties him with alumnus Scott Bowles (2005-2006) for the most shutouts in a single season.
Looking ahead, the Cougars will redirect their focus to the US Division, commencing their final road trip of the first half on Wednesday, December 13th, when they face the Everett Silvertips.
