Picking Up Steam

What a special Saturday at the VMC! The Winterhawks trounced Seattle 7-2 and picked up 13,542 teddy bears for donation in the process. That win came on the heels of another big divisional victory on Friday, when Portland topped Spokane 8-5.

This weekend marks Portland's first run of consecutive wins since Nov. 19-22 and the Hawks hit the road with plenty of positive momentum as they look to make it three straight in Everett.

Everett Again

The Winterhawks have seen the Silvertips more than any other team so far this year, with a 3-1-0-0 record through four matchups. The line of Gabe Klassen (8 pts), Josh Davies (6 pts) and James Stefan (6 pts) have dominated the season series for Portland, while Teague Patton (5 pts) and Austin Roest (5 pts) have been key for the Tips and helped fuel their lone win over the Hawks back on Nov. 24.

Like Portland, Everett enters tonight's contest with back-to-back wins, having taken both ends of a home-and-home with Vancouver this weekend. With these two familiar teams skating in their third game in as many nights, simple hockey is key as they face off for the fifth time this season.

Hats Off

It wasn't just teddy bears flying through the air in Portland this weekend, as back-to-back hat-tricks highlighted both Winterhawks victories thus far. James Stefan potted three on Friday against Spokane for his first career regular-season hat-trick, then grabbed the teddy bear goal in Saturday's win over Seattle. Jack O'Brien then joined the hatty fun with his first hat-trick since the 2019-20 season, scoring three in that rout of the T-Birds.

The two 20-year-olds join Diego Buttazzoni, Gabe Klassen, Kyle Chyzowski and Josh Davies with three-goal outings in 2023-24. Who's gonna pull off another to make it a three-for-three weekend?
