Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Edmonton, AB - Goaltender Zach Zahara (Rockyview, AB) was brilliant, in a 30 save performance, as the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers defeat the Edmonton Oil Kings 3-2 Saturday night at Rogers Place.
It wouldn't take long for scoring to occur in Edmonton as Gavin Hodnett would break-in and beat Zach Zahara to make 1-0 Oil Kings just 41 seconds into the game. Shortly after the Oil King goal, a power play to Edmonton would prove to see four incredible stops from Zahara keeping the Oil Kings at bay and holding court for the Tiger penalty kill. Medicine Hat would have their own power play in the first but weren't able to cash in. Having a deficit of 1-0 heading to the second period.
In the 2nd, the Tigers would waste little time just 17 seconds in as Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) to make 1-1, as Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) would set up the goal for Lindstrom's 24th of the season. The Tigers would press as Josh Van Mulligen (Medicine Hat, AB) would send a point shot through traffic beating Kolby Hay at 4:47 from Hayden Harsanyi (Calgary, AB) & Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB). The Tigers did have another shot to go up three as a double minor high sticking penalty to Edmonton would prove to be almost costly as Roan Woodward would draw a penalty shot opportunity, but Zahara would come in clutch denying Woodward's chance. But on the same penalty kill for Edmonton, another breakaway for Woodward... the same result with Zach Zahara turning aside another Oil King chance.
Medicine Hat rewarded Zahara's brilliance at 16:13 where Tomas Mrsic (Surrey, BC) would get his 4th of the season and first goal since October 18 in Vancouver to increase the Tiger lead to 3-1.
Despite the lead, Edmonton would respond with a Roan Woodward strike 6:43 into the third, setting up quite the finish where despite giving up five shots in the third. Zach Zahara did everything in his power to help solidify the 19th win of the season in a3-2 victory on the road in Edmonton.
With the win, the Tigers move to 19-8-2 with a seven-point cushion in the Central Division standings heading into the final week of games before the Christmas Break.
Next up for the Tigers, a road-trip to Lethbridge for the 2nd of eight meetings with the Hurricanes and first of three games next week on Wednesday.
