The Saints down the Diablos 6-3

El Paso Diablos News Release
The Diablos rallied late but came up short, 6-3 against the St. Paul Saints on Wednesday night from Cohen Stadium.
St. Paul got to Adam Blackley in the top of the second inning. Kevin Sullivan had an RBI single and Brian Sprout had an RBI ground out giving the Saints a 2-0 lead.
El Paso responded in the bottom of the second. J.D Reininger crushed an RBI double off the left field wall cutting the score to 2-1.
St. Paul pieced together a run in the top of the third. Andrew Bennett picked up an RBI single for the 3-1 advantage. The Saints made it 5-1 in the top of the fifth. Adam Blackley walked three in the inning, including Marcel Longmire which plated a runner for St. Paul. Kevin Sullivan scored Andrew Bennett legging out a fielder's choice for the four run lead.
The Diablos trailed 6-1 going into the ninth inning and mounted an impressive rally. Matt Kent led off the frame with a triple. Alex Derhak plated Kent on a single. Bryon Smith then singled which caused a pitching change, as closer Tony Pierce was summoned from the bullpen. Evan Conley smoked an RBI single up the middle plating Derhak and getting El Paso within three runs. With the winning run at the plate two times, Tony Pierce retired both Albenis Machado and Stantrel Smith to pick up the save.
Luis Villarreal (2-1) picks up the win, he tossed five innings allowing one earned run off of six hits with one walk and no strikeouts.
Adam Blackley (1-2) takes the loss, he threw five innings allowing four earned runs off of seven hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
Tony Pierce threw one inning scoreless for his second save of the season.
The Diablos will close out their three game series with the St. Paul Saints on Thursday night at 7:05 PM. David Whigham will toss for the Diablos. The game will be broadcast live at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
