ROYALS PRE-GAME NOTES -
Tonight, the Royals visit Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls, New York, to face the Adirondack Thunder for the first time this year. Reading will play Adirondack eleven times this season-more than any other opponent with the exception of the Norfolk Admirals against whom the Royals will also play eleven times. Six of Reading's games against the Thunder will be at Santander Arena in Reading-and five will be played here in Glens Falls. o
Five of the next eight games for Reading will be against the Thunder, including the first matchup of the season between the two teams in Reading this Friday (December 23 @ 7:00 pm).
-
This is the second season in the ECHL for Thunder in Adirondack. Last year in thirteen games between the two teams, the Royals compiled a record of 5-6-0-1 against the Thunder, going 3-3-0-1 here at the Glens Falls Civic Center. o
Adirondack is a continuation of the ECHL membership that used to be based in Stockton, California-a team also known as the Thunder. Prior to the start of the 2015-16 season, the Thunder moved from Stockton to Glens Falls, while an American Hockey League team, then known as the Adirondack Flames, who had played in Glenns Falls for one season (2014-15)-moved to Stockton and changed their name to the "Heat".
The Thunder and Stockton Heat are all part of the affiliation chain of the Calgary Flames of the NHL. o
The Thunder was based in Stockton for ten years (2005-15). Prior to that, this ECHL membership was based in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and was known as the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies from 2001-05. Prior to that, the membership was based in Birmingham, Alabama from 1992 through 2001 and played as the Birmingham Bulls.
And, for two seasons (1990 - 92), this membership played as the Cincinnati Cyclones at what is now US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
o
While this membership was based in Stockton, the Royals played the Thunder three times in the regular season and went 3-0-0-0 in those games. Reading also faced Stockton in the 2013 Kelly Cup Championship Finals, defeating them four games to one to capture the Cup. o
Reading played the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies thirty-seven times in team history, going 12-19-6 against Bullies when they played at the Atlantic City Boardwalk Convention Hall.
-
'The Royals are coming off a pair of losses to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina, last weekend, falling to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on Thursday (1-2) and Friday (4-5).
-
Last Friday's 2-1 loss to Greenville snapped the Royals' season-long 8 game win streak and 9 game unbeaten streak (8-0-1-0). o
Friday's loss also snapped a three-game road winning streak and four game unbeaten streak away from Santander Arena in Reading.
-
The back-to-back losses on the road this past week pushed the Royals record back to four games over .500 (14-10-1-1=30), and served to drop Reading into fourth place in the North Division of the ECHL's Eastern Conference.
-
The two losses last weekend to the Swamp Rabbits, who are in the South Division, dropped the Royals record to 4-4-0-0 against teams from the South with twelve more games to go against teams from that division (two against Greenville, one against the South Carolina Stingrays and nine against the Norfolk Admirals). o
This week, Reading plays a pair of games against the Adirondack Thunder and one against the Manchester Monarchs, both of whom are in the North Division. The Royals are 4-5-1-0 against teams from the North with thirty-one games to go against teams within the division: eleven against Adirondack (including tonight), three against Brampton, eight against Elmira, five against Manchester, and four against Wheeling. o
Overall, Reading has compiled a record of 8-9-1-0 against teams from the Eastern Conference.
-
Reading scored first in both of the two losses this past weekend. Reading is now 7-4-1-0 when scoring first. o
The Royals held a lead in both of the losses sustained this week and (depending on how you count it), held as many as six different leads in Friday's 5-4 loss. Reading has now sustained seven "blown-lead" losses this season. o
Friday's loss marked the first time this year that the Royals led after one period (2-1) and lost in regulation (6-1-1-0). o
Friday's loss was also the only the second time this year that Reading has lost in regulation when entering the third period tied with the opposition (4-4). Reading has compiled a 4-2-0-1 record when tied after two periods.
-
Both losses this past week were decided by one goal. The Royals have compiled a 5-4-1-1 record in one-goal games this year.
-

-

Reading's PP has scored at least one goal in seven of the team's last ten games (8 - 31) (25.8%).
-
Reading's penalty killers have blanked the opposition in five straight games-and in nine of the last twelve played. o
Over the last 13 games, the Royals' PK has killed off 35 of the last 38 PP chances for the opposition (92.1% kill ratio).
-

-
Robbie Czarnik recorded his first multi-point performance of the season (1g-1a) on Friday. o
In that game, Czanik scored the game's first goal while the Royals were playing with the man advantage. That was Czarnik's sixth goal of the year-three of which have come on the power play (second on the team only to Olivier Labelle, who has six). That goal marked the second time this year that Czarnik has scored the game's first goal.
-
Defenseman Florian Iberer, who leads all d-men on the Royals with fifteen points (4g-11a), picked up an assist on the Royals' third goal (by Matt Willows) 5:43 into the second period on Friday. o
