Gallant Effort Comes up Short, Fuel Fall 3-1 to Brampton
December 20, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Despite a gallant and valiant effort Tuesday night, the Indy Fuel dropped their 10th game in a row as they bowed to the visiting Brampton Beast, 3-1.
After falling behind at the 6:57 mark of the second period on left wing Chris Leveille's 4th goal of the season, the Fuel battled back to achieve the equalizer in the opening minute of the third period when defenseman Robin Press connected on his first goal in an Indy uniform at the :50 mark of the stanza. The Press strike was stoked while both teams were playing one man short. Nick Mattson and Patrick D'Amico earned the assists with the latter emanating the Fuel's lone scoring output with a decisive face-off win deep in Beast territory.
Playing with an all-out effort, the Fuel fell prey to a critical turnover at their own blue line, leading to the tie-breaking and ultimate winning goal at the 11:28 mark of the third period. The league's fifth leading scorer, David Vallorani stashed a rebound of a Willie Corrin point shot to snap the tie and produce a second Beast lead which they did not relinquish. David Pacan's 18th goal and 6th on the power play sealed the triumph as Brampton was enjoying a two-man advantage in the final minute of regulation time.
The Beast outshot the Fuel, 31-23 with goaltender Zach Fucale registering the win while hard-luck netminder Eric Levine sustained the setback.
The Fuel's setback was their 5 th in a row at home while Brampton won for the 8 th time in its last 10-starts and for the second straight time in game two of a 7-games' road junket. The Beast have claimed the first two meetings of the season between the two teams.
The same two teams will stage an encore engagement Thursday night at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in a 7:00 pm face-off as Indy looks to salvage a split in the series as well as gaining one win in the third and final game of their current 3-games' home stand before the brief Christmas break.
