Georgia Force

OurSports Central contributor Fran Stuchbury spoke to Georgia Force starting quarterback Chris Greisen following the Force's 57-49 win over the Philadelphia Soul Monday night. Greisen leads the AFL in TD passes with 44. He was a backup with the Dallas Desperados the last two seasons and has also spent time in the NFL, NFL Europe and the af2.

Fran Stuchbury: What interested you in playing for the Georgia Force this season?

Chris Greisen: What interested me was Force Director of Football Operations Jim Kubiak called me. I was a free agent, and he said, "We want you to be our quarterback." I looked at the guys that I had around me, the offensive line and especially the wide receivers, with Arthur Blank as our owner and Doug Plank as our head coach. I believe you can't get much better in this league as far as an organization being behind you.

FS: How much did you learn being a backup QB under Clint Dolezel in Dallas?

CG: I learned a huge amount. Clint helped me out so much last year, from the standpoint I was always in his ear asking him questions. He learned under Steve Thonn, who is currently our offensive coordinator. So we are running the same offense.

I was able to bring a lot of stuff over from Dallas, like that one flip pass when we were down on the one-inch yard line, that WR Rory Bergeron took 49 yards. That's something that Clint put in last year, and we were able to run effectively tonight.

FS: How was your experience in playing for the af2 Green Bay Blizzard?

CG: It allowed me to learn the AFL game, the coverage, the angles and the speed of the game. Coming from the NFL, an outdoor game, you don't really know about the AFL until you play the game. It allowed me to understand the game, understand what is going on. When I got the opportunity here in Georgia, I took everything I learned over the years and put it together.

FS: How was the experience playing for the Rhein Fire in NFL Europe?

CG: That was great I loved playing over in Europe. I met a tremendous amount of people over there. I was hoping afterwards I could get back into the NFL, but the good Lord has put me where he wants me, and it's right here in Georgia.

FS: Do you have any interest in getting back to the NFL or are you happy in the AFL?

CG: I am really happy here. I have the opportunity to start being the guy, and that's all you can ask for - be the starter and be the leader of the team. I would entertain getting back to the NFL, but right now I'm focused on being part of this team and the way we performed tonight displayed how close we all are.
