Rush Signs Moyer To Two-year Contract Extension

April 10, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Chicago Rush News Release

The Chicago Rush announced today it has signed lineman John Moyer to a two-year contract extension through the 2009 season. Moyer, who is the team's longest tenured player, was set to become a free agent after the 2007 season.

"This was truly a no-brainer," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "Not only is Moyer one of the best linemen ever to play in the AFL, but he is a true professional both on and off the field. John will do whatever it takes to help the team win - as evidenced by this season's move from the line to linebacker, which has made our defense even stronger."

"I consider the Chicago Rush as part of my family," said Moyer, who has worn Rush blue since 2002. "And until I am done playing football, I don't want to break away from my family. In addition, every year I believe we are the number one contender to win the ArenaBowl, so why would I want to ever play anywhere else."

In his ninth season in the AFL, Moyer has played in 114 career games, recording 168 tackles and 34.5 sacks - ranking eighth on the league's all-time list in sacks. He also is a threat on offense, catching 25 career passes for 13 touchdowns.

Moyer has been named to the league's All-Arena team four times and was named the AFL's Lineman of the Year in 2004. He holds Rush team records for games played (79), sacks in a season (10 in 2004) and sacks in a career (29.5).
