Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

GRAND RAPIDS - The Rampage waived former NFL first-round draft pick Troy Edwards (Shreveport, La.) yesterday following last Saturday's (April 7) 66-53 home victory over the New York Dragons. The Arena Football League rookie totaled 27 catches for 220 yards in four games with Grand Rapids, but did not play last weekend.

Edwards signed with the Rampage this offseason after spending seven seasons in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the St. Louis Rams, the Detroit Lions and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Louisiana Tech University product set an NCAA record with 27 touchdown catches in 1998 before being selected 13th overall by the Steelers in the 1999 NFL draft.

"There was no one more excited about signing Edwards than me," said Sparky McEwen, Rampage head coach and director of football operations. "But that is a personal feeling, and I can't allow my personal feelings to get involved when making decisions on the betterment of this team.

"We're top-heavy at that position right now, and I liked the chemistry of the team we had on the field last week. They seemed to communicate and perform well."

The 1998 Fred Biletnikoff Award winner (best college wide receiver) currently ranks second on Grand Rapids in receptions, though his 8.1 yards per catch average and two touchdown grabs place fifth among the Rampage's receivers.

The Rampage also signed receiver Kenney Solomon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and quarterback Mark Radlinski (Grand Rapids, Mich.) back to their practice squad. The Rampage visit the Kansas City Brigade this Saturday (April 14) at 8:00 p.m. EDT.
