The Niagara IceDogs, the Arena Issue and the Upcoming Election
October 14, 2010 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
As you are all aware, the municipal election is coming up on Monday October 25 and the arena issue has been very prominent. The IceDogs and City have done their best to make the Gatorade Garden City Arena a suitable home for our OHL hockey team. Unfortunately, the arena still fails to meet the minimum OHL standards and the league will eventually require the IceDogs to play in an upgraded arena.
However, a new arena is much more than just about the IceDogs. A modern sports and entertainment facility will allow the region to host a variety of entertainment events such as concerts, skating shows and children performers.
Perhaps even more important than all this, a new arena will show others that St. Catharines is willing to invest in itself in order to make this city a better place to live. How can we expect new businesses to invest in St. Catharines, if St. Catharines won't invest in itself?
Before casting your vote on October 25th, we would like to encourage everyone to contact the candidates in your riding. Please let the candidates know that you support the building of a new spectator arena. Your input is greatly needed and will help show how much support there is in the community for a new sports and entertainment centre.
Below is the contact information for each candidate.
Thank-you,
Bill Burke
