OHL Niagara IceDogs

1st Place IceDogs to Host Pre-game Fan Fests this Weekend

October 14, 2010 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release

Your Eastern Conference leading Niagara IceDogs will host a pair of Pre-Game Fan Fests in the Gatorade Garden City Complex Parking Lot prior to this Friday and Saturday's games. Festivities will get underway at 5pm both nights.

The Fan Fests will once again see 105.1 the River broadcasting live on location, along with activities for the fans and food and drink being available. The Fan Fests will also give fans a great chance to discuss the season thus far for the IceDogs, who moved into first place in the Eastern Conference with their win in Belleville last night.

The IceDogs are coming into this weekend's games on a three game winning streak, with all three of those wins coming on the road and the first two also being division game wins.

A big part of the IceDogs success so far has come from balanced scoring, which has seen five players averaging at least a point a game, but one IceDog is really standing out. With a big three goal and one assist game on Wednesday, sophomore forward Ryan Strome has moved into a tie for the league lead in points, with 16 points in only 8 games.

In addition to giving fans a chance to check out the conference leading IceDogs, this weekend also gives fans a great opportunity to see the IceDogs go up against two of the other top teams in the Eastern Conference in the Ottawa 67's and the Oshawa Generals.

First on Friday night, the IceDogs get their first look of the year at their first round playoff opponents from the past two seasons in the Ottawa 67's. While the teams have each taken one of those series, the IceDogs will be looking to get some revenge for last season, when the 67's were able to knock off the IceDogs in the first round. The 67's are returning a large number of their players from last season and look to once again be one of the top teams in the East Division and likely the entire conference. With the trade of Chris Perugini to the Peterborough Petes this week, it is evident that the 67's will be looking to Petr Mrazek to carry the workload this season, after having split time with Perugini last season.

Then on Saturday, the IceDogs will play their first and only home game of the season against the visiting Oshawa Generals. The game will see the most anticipated "return" of the season as former IceDogs first round pick Lucas Lessio makes his Gatorade Garden City Complex debut against the IceDogs. As fans will certainly remember, Lessio was traded to the Generals after not signing with the IceDogs last season. The Generals however were able to convince Lessio to sign over the summer providing the IceDogs with a number of high picks that were conditional on Lessio reporting. In addition to Lessio, the Generals do have a great deal of other firepower up front, with the likes of Christian Thomas and Boone Jenner helping lead the way as the Generals have scored 33 goals already in only 6 games, for an amazing 5.5 goal per game average. The Generals will look for this excellent offence to help lead the way as they hope to make their way to the top of the Eastern Conference standings this season.

With a pair of great match-ups coming this weekend, the IceDogs atop the Eastern Conference, and Pre-Game Fan Fests before both games, now is as good a time as any to come check out the IceDogs.

Both games start at 7pm this weekend at the Gatorade Garden City Complex and there are still plenty of great seats available for both games. With ticket prices starting as low as $14, the IceDogs are a great value and fun for the whole family!

IceDogs tickets are available at the IceDogs 35 Queen St. office, the Pen Centre Customer Service desk, the Seaway Mall Customer Service desk, the Money Mart location on Ferry St. in Niagara Falls, at the Gatorade Garden City Complex (game days only, starting 2 hours prior to puck drop), and through all Ticketmaster locations, including on-line at www.ticketmaster.ca and by phone at 905-481-4444.

So come out and join us for a pair of great home games weekend, starting at 5pm with the Pre-Game Fan Fests! Let's fill the Gatorade Garden City Complex and help show the OHL, that we have not only a first place team, but also first place fans!
