The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Tri-City Americans 4-3 in overtime on Friday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna
(Kelowna Rockets)
Tri-City found the board first thanks to some unfortunate puck-luck in their favour on Kelowna's first power play of the night, as Parker Aucoin(5) scored shorthanded 7:45 in to the first period. Dillon Dube(5) responded for the Rockets and evened the score at 1-1. The score remained that way in to the second period.
The score looked like it was going to be knotted for another period until Dube danced through a pair of Tri-City defenders before setting up Carsen Twarysnki with 50 seconds remaining in the frame for his seventh of the season. Kelowna took a 2-1 lead into the final stanza.
Ams forward Parker Aucoin(6) scored on the power play for his second of the night early in the third to even things at 2-2. Nolan Yaremko(3) pulled the Americans ahead by a goal at the 7:09 mark of the third. With 2:16 to go in regulation time Gordie Ballhorn bounced the puck off of Leif Mattson(2) to tie things up at 3-3. 60 minutes solved nothing, so the game was headed to overtime.
After Jordan Topping was called for interference in overtime, Erik Gardiner sprung Carsen Twarynski(8) on a partial breakaway and he ripped home the winner for Kelowna. 4-3 overtime final.
James Porter stopped 28 of the 31 shots he faced as his record improves to 3-2-1-0.
The Rockets improve to 6-5-1-1 on the year.
Kelowna enjoyed multi-point evenings from Carsen Twarynski (2G, 1A), Dillon Dube (1G, 1A), Leif Mattson(1G, 1A), and Gordie Ballhorn (2A).
Tomorrow night Kelowna is back in action to take on the Prince George Cougars for the Halloween Candy Scramble at Prospera Place. There will be over 6000 pieces of candy to be had by kids 12 and under during the second intermission. Fans are encouraged to dress up and show off their halloween costumes.
The Rockets hit the road following this weekend for a three game trip. Their first stop is in Tri-City for a rematch with the Americans on Wednesday, November 1st, 2017. The next stop is in Victoria where the Rockets play back-to-back nights against the Royals on November 3rd and 4th.
Kelowna is back home again following this weekend on Friday, November 10th when they host the Vancouver Giants followed by the Red Deer Rebels the very next night.
