Las Vegas Aces News Release
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX, the Las Vegas Aces are the presenting partner of the inaugural IX Awards. The IX Awards (The IXs) will recognize outstanding women and men who have been instrumental in the fight for equality in sports and beyond. The beneficiary of the event is the IXs Foundation, which will support programs to advance the participation of girls in sports and promote equal opportunities for girls and boys in the Las Vegas community.
On the evening of Friday, June 17, the city of Las Vegas will turn its attention to Allegiant Stadium, where The IXs will honor Billie Jean King with The Legacy Award; the 1996 Women's Gold Medal Winning Basketball Team with the Game Changer Award; former Las Vegas Mayor Jan Jones Blackhurst with the Impact Award; and resident physician at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV, Ashley Prandecki, with the Empowerment Award.
Emceed by ESPN reporter and Emmy Award Winner, Holly Rowe, the evening will begin at 4:45 pm PT with a screening of ESPN's latest 30 for 30 "Dream On," which chronicles the journey of the 1996 Women's Olympic Basketball Team. A cocktail reception follows at 6 pm, along with the IX Awards presentation, and a fireside chat with Billie Jean King moderated by ESPN and Las Vegas Aces television play-by-play announcer Carolyn Peck. Broadway in the Hood will close the program.
Chelsey Gray, Kelsey Plum, A'ja Wilson and Jackie Young will be in attendance to present the Game Changer Award, while Aces and Raiders owner Mark Davis will do likewise with the Legacy Award. Raiders tight end Darren Waller is presenting the Empowerment Award, and Raiders two-time Super Bowl-championship quarterback Jim Plunkett will present the Impact Award.
The event will also feature special video messages from Megan Rapinoe, Steph Curry, Condoleezza Rice, Steve Kerr and other luminaries.
The Raiders and the Silk Family are supporting sponsors for the IXs.
