The Moncton Wildcats will try to improve their road record of 4-7-1-0 when traveling to Quebec to play three games in three nights. The Cats will begin their road trip with a match up against the Shawinigan Cataractes on Friday. They will then face the Gatineau OIympiques on Saturday and the Victoriaville Tigres Sunday afternoon. Matt Eagles and Phil Mangan lead the team for the most points with 26 while Matt Marquardt leads for the most goals with 14. The Wildcats are currently on a 4 game losing streak.

Riopel and Barberio at the 2007 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge

Goaltender Nicola Riopel and defenseman Mark Barberio will represent the Moncton Wildcats at the annual event which plays a very important role in the selection process of Canada's World Junior Hockey Championship and Under-18 Championship rosters

The Chicoutimi Saguenéens will host the first game of the series, on Monday, November 19, at the Georges-Vézina Centre. The second game will take place the following Wednesday at the Robert-Guertin Centre in Gatineau. Then, the Russian delegation heads west where it will play two games against the OHL and WHL all-stars.

All six contests will be televised nationwide on Rogers Sportsnet. RDS will broadcast the games which will be played in QMJHL markets.

LAST WEEK

Tuesday November 13th vs Lewiston Androscoggin Bank Colisée 7:00PM

GAME NOTES:

Goaltender Jonathan Bernier made 31 saves and the MAINEiacs beat the Wildcats 3-2 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée.

Jakub Bundil (1-1), Kevin Marshall (1-1) and Alexander Beaton (0-2) led the MAINEiacs with 2 points each. Stefan Chaput scored the other Lewiston goal who won a 2nd consecutive game.

Phil Mangan scored both Wildcats goals in second period. Mark Barberio picked up two assists.

Both teams had eight power play opportunities. The MAINEiacs were able to score twice with the man advantage while the Cats scored only once.

Nicola Riopel allowed 3 goals on 19 shots for the Wildcats.

Friday November 16th vs Acadie Bathurst Moncton Coliseum 7:00PM

GAME NOTES:

The battle of New Brunswick came down to the last half minute of overtime before the Acadie-Bathurst Titan got by the Moncton Wildcats 3-2 on Friday night.

Bathurst struck first at 9:03 of the opening period when Tomy Joly scored on the power-play from Remi Blanchard and Dany Masse. Matt Marquardt answered for the Wildcats at 17:51 of the first, his 14th goal of the season, Phil Mangan and Matt Eagles drew the assists while the Wildcats had the man advantage.

In the second period, rookie Matt Brown, with his 3rd of the season, put the Wildcats in front at 4:28 with Pierre-Marc Lessard getting the assist.

The Titan's second power-play goal of the night evened the score at 2-2 at 5:22 of the third, with Tomas Svoboda get the equalizer from Charles-Antoine Messier. Both teams pressed for the game winner in regulation but both goaltenders Nicola Riopel of the Cats and Nicolas Champion of the Titan made brilliant saves to send the game to extra time.

With a shoot-out looming, Mathieu Perreault got the game winner for the Titan at 4:31 of the extra period, Labrie and Renaud assisting.

Acadie-Bathurst outshot Moncton 41-30 over the 64 plus minutes. The games three stars were Masse of the Titan getting star number 3, Champion the second star and Riopel of the Wildcats the first star.

Saturday November 17th vs PEI Moncton Coliseum 7:00PM

GAME NOTES:

It's become the story of the season so far, one goal losses by the Moncton Wildcats. On Saturday night, the PEI Rocket hung on for a 4-3 victory at the Coliseum.

Moncton took the lead at 17:21 of the first period with an unassisted goal by Zach Sill, his 8th of the year. The Rocket tied the game one minute and twenty-eight seconds later when Geoff Walker scored from Brett Morrison and Chris Doyle on the power play.

Walker got the only goal of the second period at 11:37, Morrison and Matthew Lachanie assisted, the second power play goal of the night for the Rocket.

An unassisted goal by Pierre-Luc Lessard upped the PEI lead to 3-1 at 6:42 of the third period but Phil Mangan with his 8th of the season from Mark Barberio and Matt Eagles put the Wildcats back in the game at 14:14. Morrison with his 14th of the year a short handed goal for the Rocket just 46 second later gave PEI a two goal margin again. The Cats came back, 26 seconds later with a two man advantage, Chris Morehouse put his team within a goal, Myles Gomes and Andrew Eastman drew the assist.

Despite pulling goaltender Nicola Riopel for the final minute, Moncton couldn't get the equalizer. The Wildcats won on the shot clock by a 39-35 margin.

Geoff Walker got the nod as the games first star, Morrison the second and Sill of the Wildcats the games third star.

Friday November 23rd vs Shawinigan Aréna Jacques-Plante 7:30PM

GAME NOTES:

The Moncton Wildcats will face the Shawinigan Cataractes on Friday at the Jacques Plante arena. Shawinigan is currently 13th in the overall QMJHL standings with a record of 11-12-0-2. Cédric Lalonde-McNicoll leads the Cataractes in scoring with 16 goals, 11 assists for 27 points in 25 games. Kevin Maletto (8-9-0, 2.98, .889%) and Roger Kennedy (4-4-0, 3.24, .888%) have been splitting duties in net for the Cataractes this season.

Saturday November 24th vs Gatineau Centre Robert-Guertin 4:00PM

GAME NOTES:

The Cats will face the Gatineau Olympiques on Saturday at the Robert Guertin Centre. Gatineau has a record of 19-7-2-2 so far this season and stands 3rd in the overall QMJHL standings. Claude Giroux leads the Olympiques with 19 goals, 25 assists for 44 points in 25 games including 6 power goals and 5 game winning goals. In goal, Ryan Mior (10-10-0, 2.78, .901%) played the majority of the games so far this season for the Olympiques.

Sunday November 25th vs Victoriaville Colisée Desjardins 4:00PM

GAME NOTES:

The Wildcats will visit the Victoriaville Tigres on Sunday. The Tigres are 9th overall in the QMJHL standings with a record of 14-13-1-0 and are currently on a two game winning streak. Toby Lafrance is Victoriaville's top scorer so far this season with 16 goals, 18 assists for 34 points in 25 games. Jean-Christophe Blanchard (7-7-0, 3.45, .897%) and Kevin Poulin (7-5-0, 3.93, .894%) have been splitting duties in net for the Tigres this season.
