ST. PAUL, MN (May 24, 2011) - Many great bands have played prior to St. Paul Saints games during the team's 19-year history and that trend continues this season. The Baseball Project, featuring R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills, will play prior to the Saints vs. Fort Worth Cats game on Walser Wednesday, May 25 starting at 5:30 p.m. The performance is supported by 89.3 The Current.

The Baseball Project will bring their "High and Inside" tour to Midway Stadium and provide the pre-game music in the parking lot in front of the Walser RV, a staple of each Wednesday home game. While Peter Buck rests on the sidelines, Mike Mills will take his place. Mills is no stranger to the band, playing with them a number of times including during their first show, a festival in Northern Spain in 2009.

The Baseball Project includes band members Steve Wynn, Scott McCaughey, Linda Pitmon and Peter Buck. Their first album, Volume One: Frozen Ropes and Dying Quails, was released in 2008. Their recent project "High and Inside" is a collection that sees the quartet deftly mix witty lyrics about baseball players past and present.

Their baseball-focused songs pay tribute to baseball and translate some of the great stories of the game into music. "1976" is written about Mark "The Bird" Fidrych, "Ichiro Goes to the Moon," a manic punk-pop track that marvels at the Seattle Mariners outfielder's ability to eat, build rockets and play baseball and "Fair Weather Fans," which describes the band's widespread allegiance to the teams they love: the Giants, A's, Mariners, Dodgers, Yankees and Twins.

Fans can begin enjoying the music at 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot. The Baseball Project will also play at select times during the game, between innings and at pitching changes. While rocking out to the music, fans can enjoy the craziest tailgate party of the year courtesy of Walser Automotive Group as they give out free hot dogs prior to the game. Saints players will also join the festivities and sign autographs.

The Current will be on site to help promote The Baseball Project's concert the following night, May 26, at The Varsity Theater in Minneapolis. Tickets for the Varsity Theater show are $15 with doors opening at 6:00 p.m.

Tickets are available for all home games starting at $5 for general admission, $8 for outfield reserved and $12 for infield reserved. Friday Home Games with post-game fireworks (except July 1, August 26) are an additional $2 per ticket. July 1 and August 26 feature extended post-game fireworks and are an additional $3 per ticket. Tickets purchased on the Day of the Game are an additional $1 per ticket. Children under the age of 12 and seniors 65 and older receive $1 off the admission price. Children under 2 that don't require a seat are free.

Tickets for all Saints regular season home games are available now in person at the Saints Box Office, by phone at 651-644-6659 or online at saintsbaseball.com.
