
The Aftermath: Storm Comeback Falls Short in Shootout Loss

KEARNEY, NE. - The Tri-City Storm's efforts for a comeback victory fell short in Friday's 4-3 shootout loss on home ice to the Omaha Lancers. Daimon Gardner, Sebastian Törnqvist, and Dane Dowiak scored the Storm's goals during the matchup.
Tanner Rowe scored his third goal of the season at 8:49 of Friday's 1st period to give Omaha a 1-0 lead in the rivalry game. Braydon Beahm and William Smith each recorded an assist on the scoring play. Adam Cardona scored for the first time this season with less than eight minutes remaining in the 1st period to put the Lancers ahead by two goals. Vincent Salice notched an assist on the goal. The Storm outshot the Lancers 12-8 in the 1st period, but trailed 2-0 entering Friday's 2nd period.
The only goal of the 2nd period was netted by Omaha's Griffin Jurecki at 5:02 of the period. The goal was scored on the powerplay, and was assisted by Nate Benoit and Justin Stupka. The Storm outshot the Lancers 14-8 during the 2nd period, but trailed by three goals entering the 3rd period.
Daimon Gardner scored for the second time this season to put the Storm on the scoreboard less than two minutes into Friday's 3rd period. The goal was scored on the powerplay, and was assisted by Nick Roukounakis and Graham Gamache. The Storm's next goal in the comeback effort was notched by Sebastian Törnqvist at 5:10 of the 3rd period. The scoring play was Törnqvist's sixth of the season, and Roukounakis tallied his second assist of the game on the play. Tri-City elected to lift goaltender Niklas Erickson for an extra attacker in the game's final two minutes. Dane Dowiak scored his third goal of the year at 18:12 of the 3rd period to force overtime. Graham Gamache and Cale Ashcroft each notched an assist on the scoring play. Tri-City outshot Omaha 22-6 in Friday's 3rd period.
Following a scoreless overtime period, Friday's matchup required a shootout to determine a winner. Reese Laubach scored the only goal of the extra-round shootout to seal the Lancers' win. Tri-City outshot Omaha 49-24 in the game.
Kevin Pasche made 46 saves on 49 shots to record the victory in goal for Omaha. He also denied all four of Tri-City's shootout attempt goals. Niklas Erickson dropped the game in goal for the Storm after stopping 21 of Omaha's 24 shots on net. The Storm dropped the shootout decision 4-3, and fell to 9-10-0-2 on the season.
