LINCOLN (14-7)

The Stars have won back-to-back games with a 2-1 win last Saturday against Fargo and a 3-2 win over Sioux Falls last night. Lincoln trailed 2-1 entering the third period but scored twice in the final 20 minutes to pick up their first win of the season against the Stampede. Tonight is the first-of-three consecutive games against Tri-City and the first game in a stretch where the Stars and Storm will see each other in four-of-their-next-five games. The season series between Lincoln and Tri-City is off to a polar opposite of last season. The Storm captured nine-of-10 meetings but have dropped three-of-four to the Stars to open this season.

Lincoln was bolstered by the return of Mason Marcellus last night as his sixth goal of the season was the difference at the 18:30 mark. The captain missed the three previous games due to injury but returned to pick up a point in a sixth straight game. Marcellus has recorded a goal or an assist in 16-of-18 games.

TRI-CITY (9-10-0-2)

The Storm clawed back from a 3-0 deficit entering the third period to force overtime before ultimately falling, 4-3, in the shootout to the Omaha Lancers last night at the Viaero Center. Dane Dowiak scored the equalizer with 48 seconds remaining in regulation to get the Storm a point for the third time in the last four games. Tri-City looks to earn points in three consecutive games for the first time since the first three games of the season. The Storm opened the season 3-0 but have dropped 12-of-18 games in regulation or the shootout since then.

Though he did not score last night Evan Werner has been red-hot since being traded to the Storm in mid-November by Omaha. Werner scored in each of his first seven games with Tri-City before being held off the scoresheet last night. His 13 goals are tied for third-most in the USHL and 10 of them have come in his eight games with the Storm. Werner has recorded three goals and an assist in four games against the Stars this season.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

Sixty Minutes Or More: Marcellus's goal with 1:30 remaining in regulation last night continued the streak of the Stars being the only team in the USHL who has not played any additional time past the the third period. The Storm have advanced to overtime five times, tied for second-most in the Western Conference. They are 3-2 after 60 minutes with all five games being decided in the shootout.

Third Period Comeback: Both teams scored multiple goals in their respective third periods last night, Lincoln to earn a regulation victory and Tri-City to force overtime. The Stars are 2-4 when trailing after two periods and the Storm are 1-9.

Stars PK: Lincoln allowed a power play goal last night for the first time in their last three games but remain first in the USHL at 85.7-percent. The Stars scored their first shorthanded goal last night when Jack Larrigan scored on a faceoff win in the offensive zone for his third goal of the year. Lincoln last shorthanded goal was April 16 at Fargo.
