The Aftermath: Storm Clinches Playoff Spot in 6-3 Win

KEARNEY, NE - The Tri-City Storm clinched a spot in the 2023 Clark Cup Playoffs in Friday's 6-3 win over the Sioux Falls Stampede at the Viaero Center. Jake Richard, Charlie Kinsman, Cameron O'Neill, Kieran Cebrian, Trevor Connelly, and Graham Gamache each netted a goal for the Storm in the victory. Tomorrow's home game will serve as the Storm's annual Youth Hockey Night, presented by the Tri-City Youth Ice Hockey Association. Jake Richard scored the only goal of Friday's opening period to give the Storm a 1-0 advantage in the matchup. Richard's scoring play was his team-leading 29th of the season, and was assisted by Kieran Cebrian. The goal was netted at 5:19 of the 1st period, and was scored even strength. The Storm outshot the Stampede 11-6 in the 1st period, and the 2nd period began with Tri-City leading in the matchup by a goal.

The Storm netted four consecutive goals during Friday's middle period to take a commanding five-goal lead in the battle. Charlie Kinsman scored his fourth goal of the year at 1:15 of the 2nd period to give the Storm a 2-0 advantage in the game. Kinsman's goal was assisted by Graham Gamache and Kieran Cebrian. Cameron O'Neill netted his eighth goal of the season at 10:34 of the period to give the Storm a three-goal lead. Shaun McEwen and Daimon Gardner each notched an assist on the scoring play. Kieran Cebrian gave Tri-City a 4-0 lead at 11:52 of the 2nd period with his fifteenth scoring play of the year. The goal was assisted by Alex Bump. The final goal of Friday's middle period was netted by Trevor Connelly. Connelly's goal was his eighteenth of the season, and was assisted by Graham Gamache and Tanner Adams. The Storm outshot the Stampede 14-7 during the 2nd period, and the team carried a 5-0 lead into Friday's 3rd period.

The Stampede netted three consecutive goals during Friday's 3rd period to bring the game to a 5-3 score with less than three minutes to play. Isaac Gordon notched his seventeenth goal of the year less than two minutes into the 3rd period to put Sioux Falls on the scoreboard. Gordon's goal was scored on the powerplay, and was assisted by Maddox Fleming, and JJ Wiebusch. Ryan Gordon scored his tenth goal of the season at 3:13 of the 3rd period to cut into the Storm's lead. The scoring play was assisted by Noah Andersson. Samuel Harris scored the Stampede's final goal of the matchup at 17:13 of the 3rd period. Christopher Pelosi notched an assist on the goal. Graham Gamache netted his nineteenth goal of the season into an empty net with less than two minutes to play to seal the Storm's victory. Tri-City was outshot 15-10 during the 3rd period, but the team outshot Sioux Falls by an overall margin of 35-28. The Storm improved to 15-5-2-2 on home ice, and 30-18-3-3 overall in the victory.

Cameron Korpi collected the win in goal for the Storm after making 25 saves on 28 shots during the contest. Xavier Medina dropped the game in net for the Stampede after stopping 20 of the Storm's 25 shots on goal during the opening two periods of Friday's contest. Caleb Heil replaced Medina in goal during the 3rd period and turned away all nine of Tri-City's shots on goal.

The Storm improved to 6-0-0-0 in head-to-head matchups against the Stampede this season in Friday's 6-3 win at the Viaero Center. Tri-City's two points in the standings secured the team a postseason berth with eight games remaining in the 2022-2023 regular season.
