LINCOLN (33-18-3-1)
The Stars have won each of their last three games after defeating the Black Hawks, 4-3, last night at the Ice Box. Lincoln scored three times in the second period after giving up two power-play goals to earn its first win in the season series against Waterloo.
Friday night's victory capped an impressive March for the Stars. They went 8-1-0-1 and ended the month without any regulation losses in their final eight games of the month. Lincoln also won all eight games in which it allowed three-goals-or-less.
WATERLOO (34-19-1)
The Black Hawks suffered their third loss in the last five games last night. Waterloo finished March 5-5 after a 6-2-1 February, though seven games in March came on the road. Tonight is the Black Hawks' second of four straight road games, with this weekend's road trip wrapping up at Sioux City tomorrow.
Griffin Erdman recorded a hat trick in the loss for the Black Hawks. It marked his and Waterloo's second hat trick of the season after previously scoring three times and adding an assist on Dec. 9 vs. Des Moines. Griffin's three-goal game was also the 29th USHL hat trick of the season.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
More From Mangan: Jared Mangan scored in the first period last night to extend his point streak to six games. He has four goals and two assists over that stretch but has also been on a roll since Feb. 11. Mangan has eight goals and eight assists in his last 17 games since Feb. 11.
Saturday Night At the Ice Box: Lincoln is 19-4-2-1 overall at the Ice Box but also 8-2-1 in Saturday night home games. The Stars opened the season by winning each of their first four Saturday night home games and did not lose one until Feb. 25.
Playoff Push: The Stars moved into second with last night's win but must also win tonight to remain in second at the conclusion of the weekend. Waterloo is on the road at Sioux City tomorrow to wrap up a three-game weekend. A Stars' regulation win tonight moves them three points ahead of the Black Hawks. A Lincoln win after the conclusion of regulation would give them a two-point edge but Waterloo could erase that with a win on Sunday.
