Musketeers Fooled to Start April

Sioux City, IA - The Fargo Force only found 10 shots on net but were able to put four goals on the board to grind out a 4-1 win over the Sioux City Musketeers and snap out of their five-game losing streak.

It did not take long for the Musketeers to find their lone goal of the game. Kaden Shahan snuck in a loose puck in the crease at the 3:09 mark of the first and Sioux City grabbed a 1-0 lead.

The Muskies carried the advantage into the second but Fargo eventually answered with Cole Knuble's 29th goal of the season and his second of the weekend at the 4:42 mark of the period and tied the game 1-1. Fargo's other main scorer Owen Mehlenbacher also notched his second goal of the weekend and 18th of the season at 10:26 in the second and the Force grabbed a 2-1 lead on the power play goal.

The force went 2/5 on the power play in the contest and scored their second goal on the man advantage via Verner Miettinen who tallied his 15th of the season at 10:51 in the third to give the Force a 3-1 lead.

Kyle Smolen put the game away with an empty netter and gave the game its final score of 4-1.

It was a defensive battle, that saw a total of 27 shots from both sides. Sioux City out shot Fargo 17-10. Axel Mangbo was saddled with the loss, whereas Anton Castro picked up the win.

A third and final game awaits Sioux City (25-25-2-3) this weekend on Sunday afternoon against the Waterloo Black Hawks. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:05 pm at the Tyson Events Center.
