Mobile BayBears News Release
MOBILE, Ala. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, scored five runs in the first two innings and defeated the Mississippi Braves 8-4 Tuesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Matt Thaiss matched his career-high with four hits and finished just a home run away from the cycle. He doubled and scored in the first, tripled and scored in the second, doubled and scored in the fourth, and then singled in the fifth.
With Thaiss' big night at the plate to lead the way, the BayBears tallied eight runs on 11 hits and drew six walks. All eight of Mobile's runs came in the first four innings. After a four-run first inning knocked Mississippi starter Wes Parsons (0-1) out of the game, the BayBears added a run in the second and three more in the fourth.
Jose Suarez (1-0) earned the win in his second Double-A start. He gave up one run on seven hits in five innings pitched. The Braves (8-11) scored two runs against Samil De Los Santos in the sixth and Austin Riley hit his fourth home run of the season Jake Jewell's first pitch in the seventh. However, Jewell did not allow another run for the next two innings and Ryan Clark tossed a scoreless ninth, working out of a bases-loaded jam.
The BayBears wrap up the five-game home series against Mississippi Wednesday at 11:05 a.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jesus Castillo (1-1, 6.39 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Enderson Franco (0-1, 6.00 ERA) for the Braves. Live coverage can be seen on MiLB.tv (subscription required, promo code: BAYBEARS) and heard on the BayBears Broadcast Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App, with the Countdown to First Pitch starting at 10:45 a.m.
