North Richland Hills, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas could not push past the defending President Cup Champions Friday night, falling 3-1.
Amarillo jumped on the Brahmas early in the opening period when forward Chris Cloud hammered home his first career professional goal past Texas goaltender Joel Palmer from the high slot less than five minutes into the opening period. Defensemen Neil Smith & James Jernberg also highlighted the first period with two fights. At the end of the first, Amarillo 1 Texas 0.
Texas would fight back in the middle frame, as forwards Jordan Cameron and Matt Burto netted their second and first goals of the season. Burto collected the impressive marker, scoring shorthanded on Amarillo netminder Mike Brown. Texas 2 Amarillo 1 after two.
Texas stopped all five Gorilla shots on goal in the final period, while Texas forward Lee Jubenville scored his second goal of the season. Final score Texas 3 Amarillo 1.
Texas continues to lead the league in shorthanded goals with 5...Stuart MacRae skated in his first game since November 6th...Chris Cloud earned the game's third star.
Amarillo continues their stretch of three road games in four nights versus the Odessa Jackalopes tomorrow night. The game will be broadcasted on 1440 AM ESPN Radio & CHL-TV beginning at 6:55pm CST.
