Sudbury Wolves News Release

Sudbury Wolves goaltender Troy Timpano was at the top of his game on Friday night and led the Sudbury Wolves to a 3-1 upset victory over the top-ranked Niagara IceDogs. 4,200 fans were on hand for the Wolves home opener which featured a tribute to their long-time season ticket holders and a moment of silence for former Wolf Rod Hinks.

Timpano, just 16 years of age, made 46 saves in leading the Wolves to victory. Timpano and the Wolves penalty-killers were 3 for 3 on the penalty kill. Timpano was named the game's 1st star.

After trailing 1-0 after the first period, Michael Pezzetta showed why the Wolves made him their first round selection by working his way to the front of the net and roofing a shot to tie the contest 1-1 after two periods.

In the third period, Evan deHaan and Matt Schmalz made some smart passes and set captain Brody Silk in alone on Brent Moran. Silk made no mistake and scored the game winner at the 7 minute mark of the final frame. First round Import selection Pavel Jenys scored the insurance marker into the empty net.

Shots on goal ended 47-25 as the IceDogs showed why they are ranked as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference this year. The Wolves were 0 for 2 on the power play. Brody Silk was the game's second star while Michael Pezzetta was named as the third star of the contest.

The Wolves will now travel to Belleville to face the Bulls before concluding the weekend in Oshawa against the Generals. Both teams have won their opening games of the season as well.all your subscriptions
