Belleville Bulls News Release
GUELPH, ON - The Belleville Bulls begin the 2014-15 season on a high note as they played spoiler to the defending OHL Cup champion, Guelph Storm. An explosive first period gave the Bulls the early momentum and they never looked back scoring four un answered goals. Charlie Graham recorded his first shutout of the season with 31 saves as the Bulls get off to a great start with a 6-0 victory.
After watching their opponents raise their Championship banner, the Bulls jumped out to a very hot start thanks to Jordan Subban, who is fresh off his first NHL goal at the Vancouver Canucs training camp. Subban stepped into a slap shot to draw first blood and the Bulls conintued to step on the gas. After Guelph took two quick penalties, Niki Petti wasted no time putting his club up by two on the man advantage. Alex Yuill and Justin Lemcke added helpers on th play. The power play continued and just seconds later Dallas Stars prospect, Remi Elie buried his first of the season to silent a sold out crowd at the Sleeman Centre. Rookie Brandon Saigeon added his first OHL point with an assist. The veterans continued to lead the way for the Bulls early on as Stephen Harper, who jumped back to the bule line this year, potted a big blast from the point. Jordan Subban added another point on the goal with a beautiful drop pass to find his teammate. The Bulls had a comfortable four goal lead after 20 mins of play.
A goalie switch saw Matthew Mancina start the second period for the Guelph Storm. Lots of penalties from both clubs kept the frame scoreless as the Bulls still lead 4-0 heading into the third. Belleville continued to ride their momentum as defenceman Justin Lemcke added his first of the campaign off a weird bounce that fooled Mancina. Peterborough native, Chad Heffernan also put home his first of the year with a beautiful wrist shot from the face off circle. Jordan Subban added another assist on the night to continue his hot play of late and the Bulls skated their way to an impressive 6-0 victory. "We got a couple of quick goals that were maybe not real strong built from there. I thought Chuck (Charlie Graham) was great out of the gate and made a handful of big saves." said Head Coach George Burnett following the win.
Charlie Graham was named first star of the contest and Jordan Subban was awarded the second star. The Bulls make a quick turn around as they head back to Belleville and welcome the Sudbury Wolves in their Home Opener.
