New Haven County Cutters News Release

WEST HAVEN, CT - Third baseman Jeremy Terni went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI and shortstop Chas Terni connected for a three-run home run (1) to lead the New Haven County Cutters (1-0) to an 8-1 victory over the Brockton Rox (0-1), Wednesday night, and take a 1-0 series lead in the first round of the Can-Am League Playoffs at Historic Yale Field.

Aside from a shaky first inning, Cutters' starter LHP Rolando Valles (1-0) was extremely effective in 8.0 innings of work as he allowed just one run on seven hits and struck out seven to earn the win.

Leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Chas Terni delivered the game's decisive blow with a three-run shot to left field that opened the Cutter lead to 5-1.

Jeremy Terni almost added another Cutters' homer when in the seventh inning when he launched a long fly ball to left field that would of left the park if Rox' left fielder Eugene Julien didn't make a great play to prevent the homer and hold Terni to an RBI double.

Second baseman Jose Delgado went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored and left fielder Horace Lawrence III added a single and double in four at-bats, scoring twice and driving in one.

RHP Brad Guy (0-1) took the start for the Rox and was knocked around for seven earned runs on 11 hits in 6.1 innings and suffered the loss.

The Rox had Valles on the ropes in the first inning when they posted three hits in their first four at-bats. Shortstop Mike Scanzano led off the game with a double and came around to score on a single from first baseman Francisco Lebron, giving the Rox an early 1-0 lead.

Game two of the best-of-five series is set for Thursday beginning at 7:05 p.m.

RHP Justin Knoff gets the call for the Cutters with the Rox sending RHP John Kelly to the hill.
