Hartford Yard Goats News Release
HARTFORD - Will Toffey slugged a pinch-hit solo home run in the top of the ninth and reliever Joshua Torres struck out Roberto Ramos looking with the bases loaded, as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies trimmed the Hartford Yard Goats, 4-3, Tuesday night, before a capacity crowd of 6,850. The game featured the ejection of three players and Binghamton manager Luis Rojas. The Yard Goats have lost five straight.
Yard Goats pitcher Sean Nolin hit Kevin Taylor with a man at first in the eighth inning,as both benches cleared, leading to the ejection of both players and Rojas. In the third inning, Binghamton starter Franklyn Kilome was tossed, after hitting Yard Goats pitcher Ryan Castellani. Kilome was hit by a pitch in the top of the inning.
The 45th sellout of the season enabled the Yard Goats to surpass their total home attendance from 2017. With two games remaining this season at Dunkin' Donuts Park, Hartford has drawn 395,242. It was also the club's 17th straight sellout.
Jhoan Urena, who hit two grand slams and a solo homer on Tuesday, opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first in 90-degree heat. The Binghamton right-fielder, whose mother lives in Hartford, has six homers and 18 RBI in 15 games against the Goats this season. Mylz Jones cut the lead in half with a lead-off home run in the third off of Kilome. Joey Terdoslavich made it 3-1 with a home run in the six, but Hartford (60-71) tied it in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Jones and an RBI-single by Ryan Metzler.
Toffee, who hails from Barnstable, MA, opened the ninth with his poke into the upper deck in right off of Logan Cozart, before Torres escaped a bases loaded jam of his own doing to record his sixth save and preserve the win for Ryder Ryan.
Metzler's two hits and Jones's home run and two RBI led Hartford. Terdoslavich's home run and single and two hits by Tayler topped the Rumble Ponies' attack.
Game three of the final home series of the season is Wednesday night at 7:05. RH Jesus Tinoco will pitch for Hartford against RH Justin Dunn for Binghamton.
The game will be televised on Vantage Sportsnet, broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and streamed on newsradio1410.iheart.com and MiLB.com.
