Tejeda's Two Taters Not Enough in Tough 3-2 Loss
August 28, 2016 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release
It was another big night at the plate for Spokane shortstop Anderson Tejeda but unfortunately for the Indians he didn't get any help from the rest of the offense. The 18-year-old from the Dominican Republic blasted solo home runs in the fifth and eighth innings but they went for naught as the Dust Devils escaped with a 3-2 win in front of 4,396 fans at Avista Stadium for the Outdoor Expo Day Game presented by The General Store, KISS 98.1, and 590 KQNT.
Tonight marked just the 16th game with Spokane for Tejeda but he's already taken the team lead with five circuit clouts on the season. His first round tripper left the stadium over the batting cages in right field while his second shot sailed over the Pacific Steel & Recycling sign in right-center. Tejeda's taters drove in the only runs on a night the Indians managed just six hits against Tri-City's pitching.
The Dust Devils were held off the board until the eighth inning when they tied the game on a sac fly from Boomer White. After Tejeda's second longball put the Indians up 2-1, Tri-City rallied for another run in the ninth off Tyler Stubblefield to send the game to extra-innings. Spokane looked set for a walk-off in the bottom of the frame after loading up the bases with one out but they came up short and the Dust Devils put it away with a run in the 11th.
Tejeda finished 2-for-4 while Leody Taveras, Charles Leblanc, Curtis Terry, and Clay Middleton all had one base knock in defeat. The loss dropped the Indians to 9-21 in the second half and 28-40 overall.
