Fort Worth Cats News Release
Nelson Teilon hit a game-winning homer in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 5-4 Cats win on Tuesday night at LaGrave Field.
In front of a crowd of 3,912 fans, the Cats rallied from down 4-3 to tie the game in the ninth on an RBI double by Brian Fryer which sent the game to extra innings.
Shreveport had originally taken a 2-0 in the first inning on a double by Terrance McClain and a bases-loaded walk by Deacon Burns, one of four walks issued in the first inning by Cats' starter Tim Haines.
The Cats rallied to tie the game in the second as Osiel Flores lined a two-run homer to left, his sixth of the season.
But the Sports scored twice more in the third inning as Adam Hale's RBI double scored McClain and Justin Humphries came in on an error to make it 4-2 Shreveport. The Cats got a run in the third inning on an infield single by Teilon, but left a runner in scoring position to end the inning.
There was no more scoring in the game until the ninth inning when Fryer doubled to left, scoring Flores and tying the game. In the 10th, reliever Matt Pilgreen struck out Jake Gautreau looking before Teilon took him deep on an 0-1 pitch to win the game.
Teilon was 3-for-5 in the game with the homer, his 12th and two runs batted in.
Haines settled down after a shaky first and went six innings, permitting three earned runs on six hits. Brian Martin and Kyle Yates each worked two scoreless innings in relief. Yates was the game's winning pitcher for the second consecutive night as he improved his record to 2-4.
Pligreen (2-5) took the loss after Shreveport starter Thad Markray worked seven innings and permitted just three runs on four hits, only to receive no decision.
Cats' manager Chad Tredaway was ejected from the game in the third inning by home plate umpire Cale Smith after arguing balls and strikes. It was only the second time he'd been tossed this season.
The Cats look for a three-game sweep of the Sports on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Joel Kirsten (5-2) is on the hill for the Cats and will be opposed by Bert Snow.
