St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - Angelo Fermin's two-RBI double was the difference as Sioux Falls defeated St. Paul, 3-1, in the regular season finale for both teams. A standing room only crowd of 7,072 at Midway Stadium - the team's 22nd sellout of the season - brought the Saints' season total for attendance to 288,171 for 47 dates. The all-time record is 294,363 set in 2002.

St. Paul, which finished 54-42 and opens the best-of-five North Division playoffs Monday at Lincoln, didn't offer the big crowd much offense. They managed just five hits and scored their only run in the fifth without the benefit of a hit. Matt Petrusek (2-3), who pitched the first five innings, earned the win. Jason Cierlik worked a scoreless ninth to get his second save.

The game was tied 1-1 in the fifth when losing pitcher Mike Peck (0-1) was rocked for three consecutive two-out hits. The last of these was Fermin's double to deep left that drove in the winning runs.

St. Paul, which qualified for the 10th time in its 14-year history, will travel to Lincoln Sunday to open the best-of-five series Monday at Haymarket Park. The teams play in Lincoln on Tuesday. After an off day Wednesday, the series resumes with Game 3 at Midway Thursday at 7:05 p.m. If necessary, Games 4 and 5 will also be at Midway Friday and Saturday, also at 7:05 p.m.
